A Lifetime of Heritage Craftsmanship
Heritage Oak Works combines decades of specialist timber framing experience with a deep commitment to preserving the architectural character of Hertfordshire\'s historic buildings.

The Craftsman Behind the Work
Jack Tredgett — Master Timber Framer
Jack Tredgett founded Heritage Oak Works with a simple conviction: that the traditional methods of English timber framing are not relics of the past, but living skills essential to preserving our architectural heritage for future generations.
With years of hands-on experience working on some of Hertfordshire’s most important historic properties, Jack has developed a specialist understanding of the challenges unique to heritage buildings — from interpreting the structural language of a medieval oak frame to advising on the nuances of Listed Building Consent.
His approach is rooted in the principle of minimal intervention: repairing rather than replacing, using like-for-like materials, and always respecting the original craftsman’s intent. Whether it is a discreet piece-in repair to a rotted beam end or the construction of an entirely new green oak structure, every joint is hand-cut and every peg driven with the same care and precision.
Jack works closely with architects, conservation officers, and property owners across North Hertfordshire, East Hertfordshire, and the surrounding region, including Hitchin, Stevenage, Letchworth, Baldock, Knebworth, Welwyn, Hertford, Ware, and many of the area’s historic villages.
Our Principles
What Guides Our Work
Conservation First
Every decision is guided by the principle of minimal intervention and maximum preservation of the original historic fabric.
Traditional Methods
We use time-honoured joinery techniques — mortise and tenon, scarf joints, drawboring — that have proven their strength over centuries.
Regulatory Expertise
Deep knowledge of Listed Building Consent, Part L exemptions, and conservation area requirements ensures your project proceeds smoothly.
Natural Materials
We favour green oak, traditional lime mortars, and breathable materials that work in harmony with historic building construction.
Collaborative Approach
We work closely with architects, conservation officers, and structural engineers to deliver projects that exceed expectations.
Passion for Heritage
This is more than a trade — it is a vocation. Every timber we shape contributes to preserving England's irreplaceable architectural story.
